Item Identification: Vintage Sunglasses and Eyeglasses Set Artist/Maker Identification: Unknown Medium Identification: Metal, glass, fabric

This set consists of two pairs of eyewear: a pair of aviator-style sunglasses and a pair of clear lens glasses, along with their respective cases. The aviator sunglasses feature a classic design with gold-toned metal frames and dark green lenses, characteristic of the iconic style popularized in the mid-20th century. The clear lens glasses have a more contemporary oval shape with thin metal frames, likely from a later period. The sunglasses are accompanied by a fabric case adorned with a delicate floral pattern, predominantly featuring purple flowers, possibly violets or lavender. The clear glasses come with a colorful woven fabric case, displaying a vibrant pattern of geometric shapes in various hues including red, orange, green, and blue, reminiscent of traditional Latin American or Native American designs.

These eyewear pieces represent different eras and styles in fashion history. The aviator sunglasses, first developed in the 1930s for pilots, gained widespread popularity in the 1960s and have remained a timeless accessory. The clear glasses reflect a more modern aesthetic, possibly from the late 20th or early 21st century. The contrasting case designs - one with a subtle floral motif and the other with bold, ethnic-inspired patterns - add an interesting dimension to the set, showcasing diverse design influences.

Dimensions: Approximate measurements (based on standard eyewear sizes)

  • Aviator sunglasses: 14 cm width, 5 cm height (lens)
  • Clear glasses: 13 cm width, 4 cm height (lens)
  • Cases: 15 cm length, 6 cm width (each)

Confidence Variables:

  • High confidence in item identification as vintage sunglasses and eyeglasses
  • Medium confidence in the specific eras of each piece without closer examination
  • Low confidence in exact materials without physical inspection

Condition

Both pairs of eyewear appear to be in good condition, with no visible signs of significant damage or wear. The aviator sunglasses show their lenses intact and the metal frames maintain their shape without apparent bends or scratches. The clear glasses also seem well-preserved, with no visible chips or cracks in the lenses. Both pairs of glasses retain their structural integrity and functionality.

The cases exhibit some signs of use consistent with their age. The floral case shows slight fading of the printed design, particularly noticeable in the purple hues of the flowers. There may be minor fraying along the edges, though this is not clearly visible in the image. The colorful woven case appears to be in better condition, with the vibrant colors still intact and no obvious signs of wear or damage to the fabric.

Overall, the set presents well, with the eyewear in particularly good condition for vintage pieces. The cases, while showing some age-related wear, still serve their protective function and add character to the collection. No major restoration appears necessary, though gentle cleaning might enhance the appearance of both the glasses and cases.
