Magnificent Meiji period Japanese Okimono wood & ivory figure with a carved ivory head and expressive facial details dressed in a traditional Kimono exquisitely carved and undercut from multiple wood types, decorated with mother of pearl front & rear. The standing figure holds a carved ivory bird in his outstretched hand, the other hand holding a carved ivory feed bowl. The figure stands on a carved wooden base with a finely carved removable turtle netsuke having two mice riding atop its shell.

This piece is in excellent condition with only small pieces of fingertips missing (see photos).

Dimensions: Figure height 12 1/2", 14 1/2" overall with base, Base 7"W x 4 1/2"
