Item Identification: Modern glass vase Artist/Maker Identification: Unknown, possibly Blenko Glass Company Medium Identification: Hand-blown glass
This elegant, modern glass vase exemplifies the beauty of mid-century design aesthetics. The vase features a soft, blush pink coloration that gives it a delicate and feminine appearance. Its form is characterized by graceful curves and an asymmetrical shape, likely achieved through skilled hand-blowing techniques. The vase's design suggests it may be a product of the renowned Blenko Glass Company, known for their innovative shapes and vibrant colors in glass art during the mid-20th century.
The vase's unique silhouette, with its gently sloping sides and slightly flared opening, showcases the fluidity and organic forms often associated with mid-century modern glassware. This piece would have been created using traditional glassblowing methods, where molten glass is shaped by skilled artisans using a combination of breath, gravity, and specialized tools. The result is a one-of-a-kind object that balances functionality with artistic expression.
In its current presentation, the vase is nestled in a bed of matching pink shredded paper, enhancing its visual appeal and providing protective packaging. This careful presentation suggests that the piece may have been part of a high-end retail offering or a collector's item.
Dimensions: Based on the measuring tape visible in the image, the vase appears to be approximately 6-7 inches in height. The exact width is not discernible from this angle.
Confidence Variables:
The glass vase appears to be in excellent condition, with no visible chips, cracks, or scratches from the provided image. The pink coloration seems uniform and vibrant, suggesting that the piece has been well-preserved and has not suffered from significant fading or discoloration over time. The surface of the glass maintains a smooth, glossy finish, indicative of its original quality and lack of wear.
There are no signs of restoration or repair visible in the photograph. The vase's form appears intact, maintaining its intended shape without any noticeable deformities. The absence of any obvious flaws or damage speaks to the care with which this piece has been handled and stored.
It's worth noting that the vase is currently housed in a protective box with pink shredded paper, which has likely contributed to its preservation. This packaging method is appropriate for delicate glassware and suggests that the owner has taken measures to safeguard the item.
While the overall condition appears excellent, a closer in-person inspection would be necessary to confirm the absence of any minor imperfections or signs of wear that may not be visible in this single photograph. Factors such as the clarity of the glass, the presence of any internal bubbles (which can be intentional in hand-blown glass), and the condition of the base would require further examination to provide a comprehensive condition assessment.
