This impressive collection of Audubon prints was inherited from Mr. E. H. Vare, Jr., a major Philadelphia collector. Mr. Vare previously donated five original copper plates commissioned by Audubon for the famous Double Elephant folio to Yale University in 1955 and also donated a very rare copy of the Double Elephant folio of 'The Birds of America' to the University of Pennsylvania, 1957 - 1959.
